Frequently Asked Questions
How many paddlers are there on a team?
There are 20 paddlers seated in 10 rows of two, with a drummer sitting in the bow facing the paddlers. A steersperson (provided by the festival organizers) stands in the stern, guiding the boat down the racecourse. Teams can have up to 24 paddlers. Corporate and Community team must also have at least eight female paddlers on each boat.
Is paddling experience necessary?
No! No experience is necessary. We’ll teach you what you need to know.
Can we still enter a team if we have fewer than 20 paddlers?
While we strongly encourage a full boat while paddling, you can paddle with as few as 16 paddlers.
Is there an age requirement?
All paddlers must be at least 15 years old.
Will teams have an opportunity to practice?
Yes! Each team will have a one-hour free practice with Dynamic Dragon Boat Racing staff the week of the festival. Extra practices can be purchased for $200 each.
How long is each race?
The racecourse is 250 meters. Races are fast and furious and typically last less than two minutes.
Do I need any special equipment?
No. All boats, paddles, life vests and professional steerspersons will be provided.
What’s the format of the race?
Each team is guaranteed at least two races along the 250-meter course. The top teams compete in the finals.
Who facilitates the races?
Our races are facilitated by the experienced team at Dynamic Dragon Boat Racing.
Will I be able to track race results?
Yes! All race results will be posted on the Dynamic Dragon Boat Racing app throughout the day.
How long will the event last?
The Opening Ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m., and races typically take place from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Check out the online schedule to stay updated.
Is there an admission charge?
Admission for all spectators is FREE!
Will there be food available?
Yes! There will be a variety of food trucks and vendors at the festival serving lunch, coffee, snacks and other treats for purchase.
How will the festival proceeds be used?
All proceeds benefit the activities of the Dragon Dream Team, including our Boatloads of Hope Outreach program.
